Since 1962, filming can rely on it: James Bond returns. The iconic statement was first credited to its debut "James Bond 007 chasing Dr. No" – and then in each official Bond movie, last in 2015 in "Specter". After some obstacles and with some delay, the shooting for his 25th adventure will start in early March.
Daniel Craig's latest use is expected to be a secret agent. It is quite possible that he himself dies of film death. In the last stage of "Specter", Bond had driven away with a weary smile in Aston Martin DB5. In the passenger seat, Dr. Madeleine Swann, the daughter of her old opponent, Mr. White. The agent had protected her from the murderer of the evil Blofeld (Christoph Waltz). Then a romance developed between Bond and Swann, which went beyond the usual 007 bed stories. French actress Léa Seydoux will also play Swann in the upcoming movie. Confirmed director Cary Fukunaga, stage boyfriend Baz Bamigboye, of "Daily Mail" in his online column in December.
Craig asked for the return of "Bond Girl"
It is only the second time that the Bond girl, whom Bond's female dating has always been called, returns in the same role. Until now, Brit Eunice Gayson, who died in 2018, Sylvia Trench in "James Bond 007 Hunting Dr. No" and "Love Greetings from Moscow" (1963) in a small supportive role the only one. Craig allegedly asked Seydoux personally for a comeback. "Bond 25" is likely to be a direct continuation of "Specter". If Blofeld also occurs and Waltz takes over the role again, is open.
Craig, celebrating his 51st birthday on March 2, may well have expressed in key decisions. According to media reports, the main actor is partly responsible for Danny Boyle ("Trainspotting") declining from the project after disagreement in August as director. Such a scandal had never happened in James Bond's long history.
Return of some old acquaintances
After all, the producer duo Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson quickly found in Fukunaga a high profile successor to Boyle. Also a novelty, because the 41-year-old, who, among other things, criticized the television series "True Detective" and the drama "Sin Nombre", who sits as the first American at 007 on the director's chair. "It will be the things you expect in the Bond universe," he promised in "Inquirer", "but I can't reveal too much."
Fukunaga hinted at the return of some of his old acquaintances – Ralph Fiennes as the Boss M, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny and Ben Whishaw as the armor Q. "We have some of the best actors in the world here," Fukunaga said. "Why shouldn't I have the best return with me?"
"Mysterious and Strange"
There was no public confirmation to date. But Harris revealed on Instagram just before Christmas that she was in "Bond 25". Whishaw, who just got a Golden Globe for his role in the television series "A Very English Scandal," commented on the question whether he will be back, still cautious. "That's what I've been told," he said in the "Graham Norton Show", "but it's so mysterious and strange that I can't tell you."
One secret remains, the background of the alleged dispute between Craig and Boyle, which not only led to the goodbye to the director, but also the writer John Hodge. The official communication talked only about "creative differences". The British media initially speculated about a dispute over the selection of the villain. Then the table "The Sun" reported that Boyle had refused to let James Bond die in his 25th film. "The Independent" wrote exactly the opposite.
Is James Bond dead?
Whether Fukunaga was organized by the agent's death? It would be a spectacular end to the Craig era, which began in "Casino Royale" (2006) with Bond who had to earn his license to kill.
Possible 007 followers have been speculating for years. The repeatedly mentioned Idris Elba ("Luther") definitely will not, probably not Tom Hiddleston ("Avengers"). A woman like James or Jane Bond is considered to be excluded. Recently, the Richard Madden star "Game of Thrones" has had opportunities. The reason for this is his Golden Globe winning role in the "Bodyguard" series. In that he turns up as 007 in a tuxedo through various action scenes.
A decision will probably only fall in a few years. And who knows, maybe Craig will do it again. "I think that's it then," he said in August 2017 when he announced in "The Late Show" of American host Stephen Colbert that he would again star in the anniversary relationship. But the 50-year-old has obviously not decided on departure.
At present, fans can only count on one thing: when the next movie hits the cinema in February 2020, the famous phrase comes back to the screen at the end: James Bond returns.
James Bond: Better a woman than a non-Brit
And who's gonna play Bond? A woman? The British seem less frightened by this vision than by the legendary secret agent no longer being a brother. This is the result of a survey from the YouGov Institute. It also shows that a majority of respondents can imagine a black or gay bond.
