SPOILER ALERT: Do not keep reading if you have not seen the end of season 9 of "The Walking Dead" season 9, entitled "Evolution"
At the end of season 9 of "The Walking Dead", fans finally get their first official look at the long-awaited villains, The Whisperers.
The rescue team consisting of Daryl (Norman Reedus), Jesus (Tom Payne), Aaron (Ross Marquand) and Dog meets a herd of walkers that does not move like a pack of normal walkers. But the group does not have time to worry about the behavior of the pack, since they must find Eugene (Josh McDermitt) before it's too late.
In Alexandria, Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) sits with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and tries to instruct him in spirituality. Negan is happy to simply bother Gabriel, particularly about his relationship with Rosita (Christian Serratos). Gabriel finally gets frustrated, only to learn that the Hilltop riders have come to report that Rosita was found wounded in the forest.
Michonne (Danai Gurira) has finally arrived at Hilltop along with Siddiq (Avi Nash) and the new group: Magna (Nadia Hilker), Luke (Dan Fogler), Connie (Lauren Ridloff), Kelly (Angel Theory) and Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura ). ). Realizing how relationships between communities have been established, Hilltop initially seals its doors to those who approach until all surrender their weapons.
Once inside, Michonne talks to Tara (Alanna Masterson), who tells her what they know about Rosita-Eugene's situation. Tara also informs the newcomers that Jesus will have to decide what happens to them, but they are expected to earn a living if they stay. Michonne also meets Carol (Melissa McBride), who returns to the Kingdom after leaving Henry (Matt Lintz). Carol asks Alexandria to send a delegation to the fair, but Michonne declines once again.
Henry, meanwhile, has begun his apprenticeship in the blacksmith. He runs into Enid (Katelyn Nacon). Henry is in love with Enid, so he is disconsolate when he sees her kissing Alden (Callan McAuliffe). Later, at dinner, Henry barely touches his food. When he's going to clean his plate, he meets three other young Hilltop residents: Gage (Jackson Pace), Addy (Kelley Mack) and Rodney (Joe Ando Hirsh). They have noticed that Henry is depressed and decides to encourage him by inviting him to his activities after hours outside the walls.
Michonne and Siddiq sit with an unconscious Rosita, who suddenly wakes up. Instead of resting, she demands to leave after the search group, saying they have no idea what they are facing.
Back with the search party, Daryl concludes that the pack is still following them. He plans to distract him by throwing an old alarm clock at the tall grass, drawing the pack to the sound once it sounds. Once the herd comes into view, Jesus realizes that it has doubled in size since the last time they saw her.
As the hunt continues, a storm approaches the search party. Finally they find the barn where Eugene hides. Once they find him, he begins to tell them that he and Rosita listened to the walkers whispering to each other, and that the pack that has been following the search party has also been looking for him. The other three do not believe it, until the herd begins to approach the barn.
Once they hit the road, Eugene shares the theory that walkers are evolving, giving them the ability to talk and plan strategies. Daryl offers to stay behind and distract the pack, giving Jesus and Aaron the opportunity to put Eugene, who is still injured by his fall from the water tower, to a safe place.
In Alexandria, Negan continues to assault Gabriel, which leads Gabriel to attack the old Savior while cleaning his cell. He tells Negan of his frustration that he can not help Rosita because she is in charge of taking care of him. That night, Negan sits in his cell bouncing a ball. When he rolls past the bars of his cell, Negan gets up and realizes that the door is open.
Henry throws a party with the other Hilltop kids at his clubhouse, which includes drinking some of his liquor. The group shows Henry that they have a walker trapped in a nearby well. While they tease and torment, Henry jumps and kills him with his staff. Later, Tara takes Earl the blacksmith (John Finn) to the cells below the main house in Hilltop. Henry is there, sleeping from his drunkenness. He shares his story with Earl, who sympathizes with his own problems with alcohol.
Daryl uses firecrackers and the barking of the dogs to distract the pack again, but is shocked when they ignore the detour and continue after Eugene, Aaron and Jesus. The trio moves as fast as they can, eventually taking refuge behind the stone walls of a cemetery. The herd pushes through a small break in the wall and continues after them. They try to open a metal door that they find, but it is embedded. When the walkers approach, Jesus and Aaron turn to face them.
After they have sent a number of the walkers, Michonne appears on the other side of the door and tries to open it. Magna and Yumiko arrive just after Michonne, saying they have come for a living. Aaron goes to help with the door while Jesus continues to fight against the walkers. However, when one is going to end, he suddenly steps away from the path and stabs Jesus with a hidden knife. As he does so, he whispers in his ear: "You are where you do not belong."
The others are stunned, but more walkers begin to attack from the darkness carrying weapons. Luckily, Daryl is there to shoot a few well-placed crossbow bolts. They examine the walker who killed Jesus, and Daryl discovered that he is actually a human wearing a mask made of walking flesh.
