After more than 25 years on the air, the German music channel is Viva history. On Monday afternoon at 2 pm, the transmitter, which once produced moderators such as Stefan Raab, was closed as planned.
The last song that Viva played was quite symbolic: it was "For Cool For This World" by Fantastic Four. In 1993, this song was shown as the first video clip on the then new channel – Viva ended when it once began.
The second last video was "Viva Forever" by Spice Girls. Celebrities such as DJ Bobo, Joris, Samy Deluxe, Alex Christensen, The Lochis, Udo Lindenberg, Oli P., Loona in short clips said thanks to the broadcaster.
The Fantastic Four was fulfilled the motto "We start together, we listen together" in the cutting series last. Michi Beck said the last words: "It was great with you, thank you for the good time, see you soon."
After the video came on black background, the introduction was "Viva Rest in Peace 1993-2018".
Also on social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, "Rest in Peace 1993 – 2018" was published. Instagram said: "In the last 25 years we can only thank you.
The end of the station had announced the carrier, the media company Viacom, already in the summer. For a long time, Viva had shared a program track with the Comedy Central channel. Its transmission time is now extended to 24 hours. He took over – first with the Viva logo – at 14 with the cartoon series "American Dad".
Viva started December 1, 1993 as a German counter-proposal to MTV. Especially in the nineties, the station was considered to be absolutely crucial: for young people in Germany, but also for television as a whole.
Many later successful moderators, actors and writers were discovered at Viva – next to Raab also Charlotte Roche, Heike Makatsch, Matthias Opdenhövel and Oliver Pocher. With their programs, Viva became a piece of pop culture.
