The first five PPVs of Survivor Series approached the established theme: 5-in-5 or 4-in-4 eliminations, which would often last 20 minutes or more. But the sixth series PPV of Survivor Series, in 1992, had a single party of Survivor Series; the rest were individual or tag games, like any other PPV. WWE even planned to change the name of the PPV in 2010; They only kept it because of the protests of the fans.
The fact is that it is difficult to make these kinds of coincidences narratively coherent; There are too many fighters involved so that each one of them has a personal interest in the result. That's why last year and this year's Survivor Series, which organizes everything as a Raw vs. Smackdown, they work so well. It is not necessary that there are personal problems in the game, only a direct contest of "brand supremacy". Fans get dream matches (like the next rematch between AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar), and do not interrupt the stories of a single brand for a whole month.
