British police say he identified the now-famous thief, which is the image of "Friends" star David Schwimmer.
The search for the suspect went viral earlier this week when the Lancashire police posted a surveillance image of a man wanted for robbing at a Blackpool restaurant. Fans quickly realized that the suspect had a strange resemblance to Schwimmer, who played the fool Ross Geller in the immensely popular 90s comedy.
A spokeswoman for the police confirmed to the BBC that they believe they know who the suspect is, thanks to the advice that emerged from the popularity of the post. They still need to track it.
"Could we be more overwhelmed with the response to our CCTV appeal about a robbery at a restaurant in Blackpool?" Lancashire police tweeted in a cheeky gesture to the character of the television series Chandler Bing, played by Matthew Perry. "The most important thing is that we are now satisfied to have identified the man in the still and our consultations continue to a large extent, and thank you very much for sharing it with your friends."
The same Schwimmer had fun on Wednesday with an Instagram video that shows himself shuffling in a cellar with a beer box, much like his British double.
"Officers, I swear it was not me," the actor wrote. As you can see, I was in New York. To the Blackpool police officer, good luck with the investigation. "
