He strained the nerves of "Schenki" and Commissioner Ballauf on Sunday in the "crime scene" to the extreme: patrolling Frank Lorenz aka Roeland Wiesnekker. Ustermer Mime on his role and what he would think of playing an important role in the planned Zurich crime scene.
In yesterday's "Tatort" you have excelled as a mentally ill patrol. A hammering performance.
Was the role of Frank Lorenz written for you, or how did you get it?
No. The story was written by the two authors. The throw was probably only afterwards when the script was already established.
How did you prepare for this intense role?
I have actually prepared, as I always prepare for a role: intensive reading and analysis of the script. Benefit and immerse in the character's world. A mixture of analysis and intuition.
Have you had any tips from psychiatrists about the incarnation of this figure?
No, I did not seek specific advice. However, I have read a little in relevant literature. But technical terms are usually not good for implementing a role.
What does it take to play such a complicated role so well?
I tried to play as accurately as possible. And I kept an iron law in our profession: You can never represent two different things at once.
Can you turn off at night after shooting, or have you pursued Frank Lorenz?
I was able to turn off well after the shooting, as usual. But it happens again and again that you are annoyed with yourself because you could have played something better. But that's part of our job.
The end of this "crime" episode celebrates "Shutter Island". Random or a tribute?
You have to ask the authors.
Complex figures with abysses are yours. You know it most recently since "Strähl". Is it a role you still dream about?
No, not really. But there are movies or roles that are more memorable.
In the "Prague Crime Series" you act as theater-loving Commissioner Jan Koller. What attracts you to this role?
That there is a figure that does not appreciate. Who is curious about all facets of human existence. It wasn't that easy to portray when I was surprised to discover. Unfortunately, the series has already been completed a week after the second episode was broadcast. Hard work.
The Swiss "crime scene" moves to Zurich. The main players are still missing. Wouldn't it be for you?
I've already said several times that I would be very excited.
Were you asked?
No not yet.
Who are your role models – on TV, in movies and in reality?
I have no role models in this sense, I didn't have as a child or a teenager. But I always like to be inspired and encouraged by colleagues or people, and I also like to take my hat to such people.
What do you prefer to watch privately on TV?
I like documentaries, info, thrillers and good comedies.
Have you taken New Year's resolutions – and if so, which ones?
No, I have no purpose. I wish you all a peaceful and inspiring New Year.
"Tatort: Weiter, weiter weiter" was sent on SRF 1 at 8:05 on Sunday, January 6th. With Swisscom TV Replay you can watch the program up to seven days after the broadcast.
