While the internet holds the breath for the high expectation Avengers 4 trailer, another much bullshit, much hyped, ambitious crossover makes its debut: the music video of Ariana Grande's "Thank You, Next."
The song itself was a surprise release, mysteriously played by Grande before it dropped in November. The singer added lyrics on Twitter, referring to her previous relationships, especially her last breach with comedian Pete Davidson, after their whirlwind summer romance, and such as magic, it was a single. Instead of a tiny stroke, the song was a self-taught and empowerment-anthem, and it immediately catapulted and broke the record for most streams received by a song on a single day by a female artist on Spotify, and finally became the fastest song to break 100 million streams.
Grande has given the music video the same treatment as far as to bother, and hinted that it would be a tribute to the girlfriend girls. She has released scenes from scenes from Put it on, Legally Blond, 13 Goes at 30 and Bad girls with stars from the original movies (hello Paulette and Aaron Samuels!), as well as her former victorious co-stars.
All in all, "Thank You, Next" is a nerdy love letter for a particular type of film and in a fandom-driven world that can easily support The Mama Mia! Cinematic Universe, it's a crossover we can safely come behind.
