Roseanne Barr will speak out against hatred and bigotry in the Israeli Knesset on January 30th. Is she apologizing for her previous tweets? No. In a statement released to Deadline, Barr said she was going to Israel as a voice against the insidious and anti-Semitic BDS movement. "BDS stands for boycott, retirement and sanctions against Israel. The aim of the movement is to isolate Israel in the same way that South Africa was under apartheid. And just as the boycott work, one of the most visible battlefields has been over the hearts and minds of musicians. When Lorde canceled a scheduled concert in Tel Aviv, it was BDS.
When Lorde interrupted her Tel Aviv concert this time last year, a man calling himself "America's Rabbi", Rabbi Schmuley Boteach took out a full-page ad against the singer in Washington Post. The same rabbi now takes Barr to Israel. The two have a historical story: One of the first media stops after Barr was fired for racist tweets to Rabbi Schmuley's podcast. On the trip Barr also plans "further[ing] My own knowledge of Jewish and Israeli history. "Also ignore The Conners.
