Mysterio and Orton met at the Staples Center in Los Angeles three weeks after their first round of the World Cup Tournament at WWE Crown Jewel.
It was also the first time that the two former world champions fought each other on Smackdown after more than 12 years.
Orton has been boiling since his loss in Saudi Arabia and has been determined to destroy the Master who returns from 619 since then.
Before the match began, the three times champion of the world cut some promotions in which he focused on the mask of the fighter and it was obvious that he planned to tear it out of his head.
Apex Predator went to look for his opponent's mask twice during the fight and managed to cause a tear in Mysterio's right eye.
Orton then blocked several attempts from his 619 opponent and caught him with a stellar RKO at ringside when the wrestler went for a Suicide Baseball Slide outside the ring.
The Viper then picked up the victory, but did not finish inflicting a punishment on the legend of 43 years.
The former WWE champion wrapped a chair around Mysterio's neck and hit him against a steel pole.
It was at that moment that the face of the former heavyweight world champion was exposed and the cameras glimpsed him.
Orton then humiliated his opponent as he walked away with his mask and held it over his head with a satisfied smile on his face as the fans begged him to return it.
The referees rushed to help Mysterio and covered his face with towels to make sure nobody could see him.
The masks are very sacred to fighters who never show their face and if someone tries to steal them, that counts as an act of immense disrespect.
Mysterio has been fighting with the mask throughout his career, but had to get rid of it in 1999 during his time in WCW.
The legendary midfielder and Konnan lost a Match for Mask vs. Fight Team Match against Kevin Nash and Scott Hall and then were forced to expose their face.
He continued to fight without his mask until he joined WWE in 2002.
Shocking scenes on Smackdown can lead to a meeting between Mysterio and Orton in the FTA next month.
