Fans are becoming aggressive in their demands for Disney and Marvel to rehire James Gunn back for the late continuation Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3. Now they have financed a billboard with collective funds to demand that the work be returned to their disgraced director, and it is right next to Disneyland. Too bad for them, James Gunn has already moved on to his next job, writing and probably directing Suicide Squad 2. So this is not necessarily money well spent.
Disney has announced that they have no intention of re-hiring James Gunn, although they can still use their Guardians 3 script. Marvel fully supports their decision. That has not stopped fans from mourning his return in recent months. And now, a group of hardcore Gunnheads is showing their appreciation for Gunn's work in the greatest possible way.
A digital billboard appeared suddenly in Garden Grove last Monday, located only 4 miles away from the happiest place on Earth. This adjacent Disneyland card was paid in full by a GoFundMe campaign, and should hit anyone who has seen Three billboards outside of Ebbing, Missouri as a family The billboard shouts this to all who pass in large bold letters.
"Save the galaxy: James Gunn for Vol. 3."
The GoFundMe campaign was launched last month and raised more than $ 5,000 in support of the director, who got into trouble over old Tweets that "joked" about pedophilia, rape, holocaust and September 11. Although some like to point out that these tweets were published at the beginning of James Gunn's career, when he reached middle age when he wrote most of them, they are not the work of a young man who has just learn in social networks. However, he wrote them before being part of the Disney family, and since then he has apologized for his rude behavior.
One of the intellectual authors behind this brilliant poster is Chef Giuseppe Cincinnato, 29, of Ohio, who wanted to show that his campaign was not just an outrage online for the incident. He continues to say this about the filmmaker and the situation in which James Gunn shut himself up.
"We really love Gunn as the creator and the man we've seen him grow up with, but while this would not make Disney see his mistake, we could at least show James Gunn how much support he has in his corner of the galaxy."
The group behind RehireJamesGunn.com paid the billboard company $ 4,000 for the ad. It will burn in the night until November 25, which will give Disneyland tourists some time to watch as they sit in traffic waiting to enter the Haunted Mansion. The nightmare before Christmas paraphernalia goods. The group continues to raise money in hopes of being able to rent an even bigger billboard at Christmas. The intention is to bring the next one even closer to Disneyland. Hmm, did Dave Bautista help fund this alone?
If you live in Los Angeles and the Orange County area and want to see this billboard yourself, you can see it from the East Freeway 22 California before Harbor Blvd. exit. The card is at 13541 Newhope St. You should probably take it and enjoy it for what it's worth, the undercard was actually much harder to follow than Chef Cincinnato had expected.
"I've probably sent hundreds of emails, hundreds of phone calls, hundreds of text messages to so many companies and representatives, we definitely have some drawbacks."
Shortly after Gunn was fired by Disney from Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the entire cast met to sign a petition letter requesting that the studio rehire the director. All that fell on deaf ears, as will this billboard. There was also a petition on change.org that garnered the signatures of 400,000 fans, who generated nothing more than a yawn from Disney officials. Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger said this about the firing and refusal to rehire Gunn.
"James Gunn's decision was presented to me as a unanimous decision by a variety of executives in the studio and I supported it, I have not considered his decision."
James Gunn is clearly not being rehired at Disney to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3. He has already accepted his fate with Marvel and has moved to the pen of the Suicide Squad 2 script, which Michael Rooker recently confirmed that Gunn was directing. Cincinnato knows there is little chance that Gunn will be invited again, but he still hopes the studio will take a few minutes to "reevaluate" the situation before officially announcing a new director.
It is rumored that Disney plans to save his Guardian franchise by hiring a director. But that has not been confirmed by anyone really associated with the study. The sequel is indefinitely waiting, and probably will not be shot until 2021. Says the kitchen master.
"If nothing comes of this, at least we met some amazing people and did what is right for James and showed how important it is for us."
As expected, Disney is turning a blind eye to the undercard at the moment. The Hollywood Reporter, which compiled the Chef's original quotes, approached Disney. The study ignored them and did not bother to respond.
