It's the end of an era on Netflix: the transmitter announced on Wednesday that The orange is the new black – one of his first programs with a script – will conclude with season 7 (released in 2019).
"After seven seasons, it's time to get out of jail," series creator Jenji Cohan said in a statement. "I will miss all the rude ladies of Litchfield and the incredible team we have worked with, my heart is orange but … it fades to black."
The end of Season 6 included the anticipated release of Piper (Taylor Schilling) from Litchfield, while a previous episode hinted at the possibility of her writing a memoir about her time in prison. Meanwhile, Taystee was convicted for the murder of Piscatella (after the MCC guards covered his tracks) and sentenced to life imprisonment behind bars.
Reflecting on the conclusion of the series, Cindy Holland, vice president of original Netflix content, said: "During the production of season 1, everyone involved with The orange is the new black We felt we knew a special secret that we could not wait to share with the world. Since then, we have laughed, cried, enraged and roared with the women of Litchfield, and every moment we spent with them felt like a borrowed time, too good forever / We will be sad to say goodbye, but we will definitely come out on top " .
