Earlier this month, Metallica played a rare acoustic performance concert in San Francisco to raise money for its ideal All Within My Hands Foundation. They played some hits that translated well into acoustic instruments ("Unforgiven", "Nothing Else Matters"), reworked some classics to fit the Disposable Heroes and attempted some unusual coverings (The Blue Eyes Cults "Veteran of the Psychic War "and Nazareth" Please not Judas Me "). In an effort to raise more money for charity, who recently donated $ 100,000 for relief work to fight California Firefire, they release the concert as an album.
The dual LP release, Help your hands … Live & Acoustic on Masonic, will officially come out on February 1st, but as part of Giving Tuesday, it is available for pre-order now. It has two colored LPs on heavyweight 140 grams of vinyl and a download card. All net income goes to the All Within My Hands Foundation. It will also be available on independent recorders and digitally next year.
The band launched charity last year with an eye to fighting hunger and strengthening society with labor education. The concert, which included an auction, helped raise $ 1.3 million for the cause, and the band will distribute the money to Feeding America and the American Association of Community Colleges. As charity is self-managed and funded, 100 percent of donations go to other organizations supported by the Foundation.
The group also offers a limited edition etched glass, with artist Pushead's pictures for his "One" single on it, as part of Giving Tuesday. All net income goes to the foundation.
Earlier this year Metallica arranged a "Day of Service", which encouraged fans to throw into local food banks. Lars Ulrich wrote an essay for Rolling stone about what he learned from the experience. "I met [Metallica fan] Robert Alvarez on the Metallica Day of Service event here at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, "he wrote." He told me how two of the most important elements of his life collided that day. He has been volunteering there for 13 years to take care of his closest community and family members, and on top of it has every Metallica disc and calls himself a hardcore fan.
"To me, he exemplifies what this whole work is about: Give our fans a music based platform to connect to other members of their communities around volunteer work, give back and share in the happiness I mentioned earlier … happiness and incredible opportunities like most of us in the western world take for granted. "
