Megyn Kelly finalizing the terms of departure with NBC: How much will you be paid?

adminNovember 20, 2018

Megyn Kelly will receive your payment.

Sources close to the television personality exit negotiations with NBC News revealed to Page Six on Tuesday that Kelly is finalizing a $ 30 million exit deal from the network, weeks after he canceled "Megyn Kelly Today" after the controversial comments of Kelly on his black face.

"Everyone wants this to end, both Megyn and NBC, and Comcast has the money to pay Megyn," said a source at NBC's parent company. "We thought this would be a deal made a few weeks ago."

"It is taking a little longer than expected, the paperwork comes and goes," repeated another informant.

Kelly is expected to be paid the remainder of her $ 69 million three-year deal she signed with NBC News in 2017 after she left Fox News after a decade. He was only a year and a half in his stay in the broadcast network, which included "Megyn Kelly Today" and "Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly, along with special coverage, before they disconnected from their low-grade morning show. She feels she is entitled to a payment, which according to sources should not be a big problem for Comcast.

"NBC decided instead to fight and face a lawsuit from her, and, most importantly, Comcast with all their money, they decided to draw a line under the debacle and pay Megyn the total amount owed on his contract so that Go away". A television source said of the situation.

Well, at least "go away" from NBC. The same "main" source indicated that the public should expect Kelly to return to television fairly quickly, probably next year, in a different network, as the country prepares for the next presidential election of 2020.

"But this is far from the end of his television career," the source told Page Six. "In the Trump era, there are few stations like her." Megyn is likely to take a short break from television and return to cable news before the 2020 election.

Megyn Kelly and NBC are expected to finalize their terms of departure next week.

Back in the "Today" program, the ratings have gone up in a general way in the absence of Kelly. The audience at the old time of 9 a.m. Kelly's not only has increased by 10 percent, but the overall ratings have also increased, which has helped "Today" outperform its rival "Good Morning America."

In an interview that drew attention, she asked Republican strategist Karl Rove an uncomfortable question when during the 2012 election, when he was predicting the numbers Republican candidate Mitt Romney needed to win the election: "Is this what he does? you as a Republican – make yourself feel better, or is this real? "

However, his stay in the network was not without controversy. Kelly attracted strong criticism in 2013 after a segment during which she told the "children who watched at home" that "Santa is simply white" and that "Jesus was also a white man".

Kelly was roundly criticized for the historical inaccuracy of the segment (one can trace Santa to a real-life monk named San Nicolás who was from Turkey) and for his racial nuances.

The segment was monopolized by the political satire shows of the night, such as The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.

"Who are you talking to?" The Daily Show host, Jon Stewart, asked after playing Kelly's segment, during which he addressed "all the children who watch at home."

"Children who are sophisticated enough to watch a news channel at 10 o'clock at night, but innocent enough to believe that Santa Claus is real, but racist enough to be scared if he is not white." Stewart asked, drawing cheers from the audience.

Critics also accused Kelly, who came out as an independent in 2015, of adopting a double standard in her reports.

NEW YORK, NY – OCTOBER 10: Megyn Kelly, presenter of America Live on the set of Fox News studios in New York. Fox News Channel celebrated its 15th anniversary on the air on October 7.

Things changed during a Republican primary debate in 2015, when Kelly became part of the news cycle. After she questioned then-Republican candidate Donald Trump about his behavior toward women, Trump implied that Kelly had been vindictive and said he had "blood coming out of his eyes, blood coming out of her … wherever."

The commentary, which many perceived as sexist, attracted immediate and sustained criticism from observers, while Kelly garnered support from both sides of the political spectrum.

However, not everything was rosy for the Fox News presenter. Kelly told host Jimmy Fallon late in the evening, a few months later, that he "could not go to Twitter anymore" because of the harassment that Trump and his fans experienced.

Kelly was again the center of attention later that year, when she defended former Fox News anchor, Gretchen Carlson, who had accused Roger Ailes, Fox News' CEO, of sexual misconduct.

Her new multi-year contract with the network gives Kelly several prominent roles, according to The New York Times earlier this year: she will host an interview and news program during the day, a news program on Sundays by the night, and it will take a point in the coverage of the most outstanding events. Kelly had already entered her new position before debuting her daytime talk show on Monday. Therefore, it remains to be seen if he really plans to stay away from the political struggle.
