Lil Wayne accepted the I Am Hip Hop 2018 award at the annual BET Hip-Hop Awards, televised last night. During his acceptance speech, the rapper thanked his friends and family before screaming at the man who saved his life after his attempted suicide at age 12. Referring to the former New Orleans homicide detective as "Uncle Bob," Wayne told the story of how "a group of policemen jumped on me, but he refused to do it," rushing young Wayne to the hospital. Look at the speech below.
Wayne has spoken publicly about Uncle Bob before. In 2016, when asked to clarify his comment that "there was no racism," Wayne cited the example of the white policeman who saved his life. It was not until recently, on his last album. Tha Carter V, that Lil Wayne confirmed that his self-inflicted bullet wound was an attempted suicide.
