"It's been a very difficult few months now," he admitted. "I really thought we would get over it."
Although Bristowe said that she knew that the fans had suspected the breakup for a while, she was always optimistic that they would stay together.

She said the couple came across a "crossroads" in the relationship during a recent trip to Bristowe's native Canada.
"With all the difficult moments of life, life lessons come and that is what I need to get out of all this," he explained. "Sometimes you need to take a moment and step back to think about why you are struggling and if it makes sense for your long-term happiness."
After three years together, Bristowe and Booth made the difficult decision to go their separate ways.
"There were some important fundamental values that did not align," he said, adding that there were also "some things we would probably never see face to face, we had no choice but to be honest with ourselves and with others."
But despite its division, the star of reality said that the relationship that fans saw developed in High school And in the social networks in the following years it was genuine.
"I want to reiterate to people, what you saw on social networks was real and what we had was true love," he said. "But when it comes to obstacles, those fundamental values and how to overcome things together, I just do not think we're on the same page, and it's painful to admit it." But you need that foundation and that association if it's going to last forever. "
Bristowe admitted that one of the most difficult parts of his breakup was saying goodbye to Booth's dog, Tucker.
"I think I've been suffering this for a while," he said. "And knowing that Tucker is no longer in my house … Sometimes I feel it was almost the glue of our relationship, I clearly love that dog, but I will still see him."

Although they no longer have a romantic relationship, Bristowe said that she and Booth "will remain friends".
"I also wanted to thank everyone who has respected this decision and for all the kind messages," he added. "I know there are many bright days ahead and, in a strange way, as much as I was afraid to release that affirmation and accept it was the end, it has let me close the door to that old thinking and start imagining my new Future ahead, that excites me. "
Bristowe, 33, and Booth, 31, who had moved together in Nashville, announced their exclusive separation to PEOPLE earlier this month.
"This was the last thing Kaitlyn wanted, I was willing to fight for the relationship, but I had nowhere to go," a source recently told PEOPLE.
"It is natural to think about the next steps when they have been together for three years," the source said. "Kaitlyn wants to get married and have children. But they did not look like they were on the same page. "

"I just want to thank everyone who has been very supportive of my relationship with Kaitlyn over the years. You made me feel incredibly special, supported and very dear, "he wrote a July 2015 photo of himself and Bristowe in New York City, shortly after she gave him the final rose in season 19.
