Journalists Trash Elle for the false story of Kim Kardashian-Kanye West Split, linked to voter registration

adminOctober 18, 2018

Journalists believe that Elle magazine crossed the line into the fake news territory on Thursday when the Twitter of the publication "reported" that Kim Kardashian Y Kanye West They were "dividing."

The link did not lead to a juicy article about what would be the biggest celebrity divorce of the decade and, instead, it took curious Twitter users to a page that encourages people to register to vote. The reaction was instantaneous, with commentators in the media and beyond calling the tweet "trash" and challenging the publication to "do better".

BuzzFeed journalist, Ryan Mac, was among the marked journalists, responding in the "Delete this" tweet. Mashable editor Erin Strecker said the trick was "condescending," and CBS reporter Brittney Hopper said: "You give journalists a bad name, this is horrible, so unethical."

Yashir Ali, who has published dozens of important entertainment news for several publications, forwarded Elle's tweet with the comment: "When a random tweeter did this, it was smart, but now you're just stealing your tweet and spreading false news."

On the other hand, journalist Ashlee Marie Preston, who has written for several important publications, noted that she had the same idea before Elle. "Wow … it's official … Kim Kardashian finally decided to divorce Kanye West …", he wrote on Twitter on October 12 and linked him to www.Vote.gov.
