Jack and Rebecca took a big step in their relationship during the episode on Tuesday, November 13, We are, titled "Sometimes." Zoe also talked about the abuse in her past.
In the path
Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) left for Los Angeles a week after the meeting. Jack chose not to talk to Rebecca about his time in Vietnam or anything else, really. The two traveled throughout the country and approached every mile of the road. They danced slowly during a stop, where Jack revealed that he had never cried.
While they were in a motel along their trip, Rebecca climbed into Jack's bed and the couple had sex for the first time. They continued to sleep together along their journey, and Rebecca noticed Jack's nightmares. But he continued to turn it off when she asked him about the war. Rebecca wanted to know more about Jack and knew that she wanted to be where he was. Later he confessed that he did not want to take the war to his romance.
In California, Jack went to see the parents of a soldier in his squad that was killed by a landmine. He assumed full responsibility for the death because he let his guard down, but the couple assured Jack that it was not their fault. Meanwhile, Rebecca visited the record label that had expressed interest in her, but was told that she was "Pittsburgh good". Jack asked him to sing his song and he cried while singing about how to overcome mistakes. Then, she told her new boyfriend: "Let's go home."
Good potatoes and bad potatoes
Zoe (Melanie Liburd) and Kevin (Justin Hartley) arrived in Vietnam, where they planned to go to the fishing village where Jack was stationed. Kevin discovered that the necklace his father gave him was a popular memory, which discouraged him.
Zoe told Kevin that her father lived in China, and she did not want him to know that she was close. When Kevin pressed her, she refused to give more details. Zoe got sick, so the couple returned to the hotel.
Kevin admitted to Zoe that he was falling in love with her, and after she reciprocated, she told Kevin that her father had sexually abused her as a child. Therefore, she excluded him from his life, even while trying to make amends.
A friendly hand?
Jack asked Nicky (Michael Angarano) to the commanding officer if he could take his brother to his squad to straighten him out, but the leader told Jack that he was going against protocol to put the brothers in the same outfit. The commanding officer later took Nicky to Jack's village and told him he had two weeks to work on Nicky, who expressed his frustration that Jack had not left him in his own squad "to make him rot."
