Tracee Ellis Ross once again hosted this year's AMA, and did so with a style that makes a statement. Starting things off with an opening dance number, the multi-scripted star explained that there was a racial inclusion message behind her impressive wardrobe, in which she collaborated with stylist and close friend Karla Welch.
Ross, 45, opened the program by asking everyone they saw to "increase their compassion, lower their judgment and literally act as if they were encouraging one of their best friends by doing a talent show," followed by an impressive number of dance in which she was wearing a navy blue sequin dress. Then she introduced some of the artists and nominees from the audience and explained that for her tonight was "also about clothes".
"I will introduce black designers in all my looks tonight," he announced to the crowd, before joking that "I could finally get to the Shaderoom and if you do not know what the Shaderoom is, it's the black TMZ."

He hit the carpet with a "power suit" by Pyer Moss that blushed with black lapels. The brand was founded in 2013 by the designer Kerby Jean-Raymond, as a brand of male and female fashion with the mission to "build a narrative that speaks about heritage and activism".
the Blackish Star, who often defends the need for greater diversity in Hollywood, told PEOPLE before the show that she was very enthusiastic about the inclusive issue.
"We have a very specific theme this year, a story that I am telling about who is doing all the clothes, but I will keep it a secret and I will share it during the show," he said. "That's really special to me and very exciting, and that was our driving force and the kind of marching order I gave Karla. [Welch] on how to go out and hunt things on that particular topic. "

Ross and Welch have a very collaborative process, and always work together when they take off the star's appearance, recently working together on their dress list and the best dressed, leading the Valentino Haute Couture pink dress that was used at the Emmy Awards.
Karla and I work very well together. Apart from that, it's what looks good on my body and makes me feel comfortable and powerful, "Ross said." All different types of clothes make my heart sing. "

And although she promises to bring changes in the attire at this year's AMA, Ross could reduce it a bit.
"My only complaint about last year is that all those amazing clothes did not look as good as I wanted them to look," he shared. "However, knowing me, if we have the look that I want to put them in. You may have to see everything on my Instagram instead of on stage."
